Upscale dining, retail, apartments to replace Westfield Montgomery mall Sears

June 25, 2018

A Sears store and its surrounding area at Westfield Montgomery mall, in Bethesda, Md., will give way to high-end dining, shopping, apartments and outdoor recreation, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has announced.

Westfield Montgomery Winter Garden The redevelopment is helping turn the mall into a 'lifestyle destination,' a company official said

The redeveloped area would span about 28 acres and represents Westfield Montgomery’s continued transformation into a “lifestyle destination,” Jim Agliata, Westfield’s vice president of development, told Bethesda Magazine.

A $90 million expansion completed in 2014 included renovation of the mall’s food court, construction of a dining terrace and other improvements. More recently, the landlords opened ArcLight Cinemas there and added a gastropub and a bowling alley, the magazine notes.

“The mall is at its high point for tenant sales, and it’s doing wonderfully, but what it lacks is those touch points and those areas for pedestrians to relax, those green areas,” Agliata told the magazine. “This really brings Westfield Montgomery’s evolution to a new head.”
