Who’s open, closed on Thanksgiving day

October 3, 2018

At least 60 retail chains have announced that they will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, and many malls will too.

Among the names on a list of stores staying closed Nov. 22, compiled by Bestblackfriday.com, are Burlington, Crate & Barrel, Costco, Dillard’s, H&M, Home Depot, IKEA, Marshalls, Petco, PetSmart, Publix and T.J.Maxx.

Mall of America announced last year that it would remain closed on Thanksgiving, and so did malls owned by CBL Properties.

Creep-back from the traditional Black Friday shopping extravaganza began in 2010, when Sears opened on Thanksgiving Day, with Walmart following suit in 2011 and and Target in 2012.

Black Friday will again be the year's busiest shopping day this year, according to ICSC Research, with 46 percent of shoppers saying they plan to be making purchases that day, up from 44 percent last year.
