What Small Businesses Need to Know About the Corporate Transparency Act

December 12, 2024

A Jan. 1, deadline for many businesses to submit detailed ownership to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network has been put on pause. The Corporate Transparency Act, aimed at increasing transparency and combating financial crimes, would have required it. However, an injunction has made such filings voluntary until the matter makes its way through an appeal. Experts still encourage businesses to file their reports promptly, as the injunction may be lifted. Businesses should seek guidance from their legal counsel to determine if they are responsible for complying with the law’s requirements should the injunction be lifted.
