Rothy’s, which sells shoes manufactured from recycled plastic water bottles, is expanding its store base. The company says it will roll out new stores this fall, with more to follow next year.
The company, which got its start as an e-tailer, will open stores in New York City’s West Village, on Boston’s Newbury Street, in Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown and in Los Angeles. The company already operates a store on San Francisco’s Fillmore Street.
Rothy's only store so far is on San Francisco's Fillmore Street
The company achieved roughly $140 million in revenues through the sale of some 1 million pairs of shoes last year — and it has so far recycled about 32 million water bottles.
Brick-and-mortar is paying off, the company said in its announcement.
“Rothy’s has seen tremendous success at their current store location on Fillmore Street, in San Francisco," the published statement reads, "and the brand is focused on thoroughly integrating into each neighborhood. Instead of massive flagships, they're focused on creating intimate venues for connecting with communities. Each store will launch with a special, one-of-a-kind shoe.”
