Publix Super Markets is opening reformatted stores that better accommodate omni-channel sales. The company and a local developer want to convert a former church into a 30,000-square-foot Publix store that will include a specialized pickup area for delivery services, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The store, which would incorporate elements of the Publix Millennial-targeted GreenWise store format, is to be half the size of some of the larger stores, such as an existing 65,000-square-foot Publix at the nearby Winter Park (Fla.) Village shopping center.
More supermarkets are seeking ways to accommodate online shoppers and to make access more convenient in the interest of becoming more competitive against such online rivals as Amazon.com. Delivery zones for online-order pickup are an important new step.
