Scottsdale, Arizona: Pivot Development will add three retail buildings totaling some 25,000 square feet to its 13-acre Papago Plaza mixed-use center by the second quarter of 2023. Walgreens will take one, and the others will house restaurants and independent retailers. Pivot demolished a shopping center at the site in 2019 and built a five-level, 216-unit residential building that’s already leasing. A hotel and grocery store also are under construction there.
San Leandro, California: A joint venture between Bay Area developers Peter Lennon and Adam Goldenberg paid $57 million for portions of the 820,000-square-foot Bayfair, including stores leased to Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s and Macy’s. The developers and the city are considering redeveloping the all-retail, 1950s-era property into a mixed-use complex.
Sherman Oaks, California: Developers are converting the vacant, 126,674-square-foot, 8.3-acre office campus that once served as Sunkist’s corporate headquarters into a mixed-use property called Citrus Commons. The project will include renovated office space, 249 luxury residential units and 27,000 square feet of service tenants. The scheme incorporates nearly four acres of green space.
Denver: Regency Centers and Coventry Development Corp. will build a 123,000-square-foot retail center anchored by a King Soopers supermarket at the RidgeGate master-planned community. The retail project breaks ground next year for a 2024 opening.
Maynard, Massachusetts: Capital Group is set to break ground on Phase 2 of Maynard Crossing. The two buildings will offer 46,000 square feet of retail for multiple tenants. This phase will integrate Halstead Maynard Crossing, which is a 180-unit luxury apartment complex, and Camellia Gardens, which is a 143-unit, upscale independent living seniors housing community. Market Basket, a grocer, anchors the retail in the 300,000-square-foot Phase 1.
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan: REDICO completed redevelopment of The Village at Bloomfield, a 1.1 million-square-foot, 87-acre project. The site had been abandoned for more than a decade, and REDICO demolished all but one building and an adjoining parking structure in fall 2018. An 85,000-square-foot ambulatory care facility and supermarkets Aldi and Menards anchor the development, which includes other retailers, medical offices, a fitness club, restaurants, a hotel, seniors housing and additional multi-family.
Niles, Ohio: A lot of construction is going on at Cafaro’s Eastwood Mall Complex. HomeGoods is building a 22,112-square-foot store for a summer 2023 opening, and LongHorn Steakhouse will begin construction soon on a one-acre parcel formerly occupied by IHOP for a February 2023 opening. Cafaro also is backfilling a 9,637-square-foot restaurant outparcel with King Cajun Seafood & Bar to open next month.
