TestFit Incorporates Generative AI, Plus C-Suite Updates

June 28, 2024

TestFit will add generative artificial intelligence in July, reducing the amount of time it will take its users to test building designs and configurations for a development site. As a 2022 C+CT story explained, a TestFit user previously could try out a design to determine, for example, whether to make an offer on a site. Or the user could make adjustments to that design with the platform’s help. Now, a user specifies building requirements like floor area ratio, parking ratio and yield on cost, and TestFit Generative Design, will produce and vet every possible configuration, even originating some the user had not thought of, according to the company. “Up until now, we’ve generated one plan for the user that fits within their criteria,” said co-founder and CEO Clifton Harness. “Now, we generate every possible solution. We’re going from one to all.” TestFit also said TestFit Generative Design can optimize buildings for sustainability.

C-Suite Transition at ShopOne

ShopOne promoted chief investment officer Chris Reed to CEO and COO Michael Makinen to president. Reed replaces John Roche, who has transitioned to the role of chair. Reed, who has more than 15 years of retail real estate experience, joined ShopOne in 2020 as executive vice president of acquisitions. Makinen joined ShopOne in 2021 as COO after more than 25 years in retail real estate. Roche joined ShopOne as CFO in 2017 and became CEO in 2019.

Buildout Names New CEO

Commercial real estate software firm Buildout promoted Helen Calvin to CEO. Calvin succeeds co-founders and co-CEOs Jason Tillery and Kris Krisco, who will transition to advisory roles. Calvin has served as chief revenue officer for the past two years.
