ICSC members gathered in Washington, DC for the 34th annual Federal Fly-In on March 24-26. During the event, members from 29 states met with 141 Congressional offices to discuss tax priorities impacting the Marketplaces Industry.
Prior to Hill meetings, members attended briefings on top ICSC issues, such as Congressional proposals to cap or eliminate the federal business deduction for state and local property taxes and possible changes to the treatment of carried interest and pass-through deductions.
The meeting also featured a “State of the Industry” briefing by ICSC President and CEO Tom McGee and a “fireside chat” with Kevin Brady, former chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee.
During the three-day event, ICSC’s Government Relations Chairs and the Economic and Environmental Committees also held sessions to share information about ongoing and emerging issues.
Other Fly-In activities included a late-night ICSC PAC event at ZOOZ Cocktail Garden, which was attended by Representatives Bill Foster (D-IL-11), Laura Gillen, (D-NY-4), Bill Huizenga (R-MI-4), Stacey Plaskett (D-VI-AL), Bryan Steil (R-WI-1), William Timmons (R-SC-4), Marc Veasey (D-TX-33) and Tony Weid (R-WI-08).
“The Federal Fly-In is a special event because it puts our members face-to-face with Congress,” Laird said. “With consideration of a new tax bill looming, it is essential that ICSC members communicate with lawmakers about how various tax proposals will impact their businesses.”
