Raider Hill Advisors CEO Daniel Hurwitz joined WeWork Inc.’s board of directors on June 23. He succeeds Raine co-founder and partner Jeff Sine, who had served on the board since October 2019.
Daniel Hurwitz
Hurwitz brings more than three decades of experience transforming public and private commercial real estate businesses. Before co-founding Raider Hill Advisors, Hurwitz spent 16 years at Site Centers, formerly known as DDR Corp., including as CEO from 2010 to 2015. Hurwitz also served as interim CEO of Brixmor from February through May 2016.
Hurwitz, who will chair WeWork’s audit committee, sits on Brixmor’s board and is an advisor to the boards of Edens and ShopCore Properties. He also served as ICSC chair from May 2019 to December 2020 and sat on General Growth Properties’ board from 2013 to 2018, serving as lead director and chair of the special committee.
“Daniel brings deep knowledge of the real estate industry paired with invaluable experience leading during times of transformation,” said WeWork chair and CEO Sandeep Mathrani. “I am confident he will make a strong impact as we continue executing on our strategy for driving innovation, growth and profitability.”
Former ICSC chair Malcolm Riley has died at the age of 90. He was a tireless advocate for the industry in California, helping found and guide the CBPA. He also shared his industry knowledge as an instructor in ICSC educational programs. “Mal exhibited a passion for the industry and ICSC,” said ICSC president and CEO Tom McGee.
As founder and president of Riley Properties and of Riley Cos., he developed more than 50 retail properties totaling 9 million square feet in California. But during his term as chair and his 40-year career, Riley also became known as a friend, colleague and mentor who gave generously of his time and expertise.
“Mal was one of the world’s truly wonderful human beings and similarly one of the truly wonderful shopping center pioneers,” said Bucksbaum Properties founder and CEO John Bucksbaum, also a former ICSC chair. “Mal was a leader in every respect, and he will be sorely missed. He was kind, gentle, fair, personable, dedicated, committed and morally upstanding.”
Arthur Pearlman Corp. chair Arthur Pearlman added: “Mal was a special person that loved life. He was always laughing at himself while enjoying a lifetime of ICSC friends and relationships.”
