In a significant move to support franchisees, the Federal Trade Commission issued new guidelines cautioning franchisers against restricting franchisees’ communication with government officials and against imposing undisclosed fees. This action follows growing concerns about unfair practices in the franchise industry, which includes more than 800,000 businesses. The FTC’s policy aims to ensure transparency and fairness, protecting franchisees from deceptive practices and reinforcing their rights to voice concerns without fear of retaliation.
