CVS to open 1,500 HealthHUBs

June 4, 2019

CVS anounced Tuesday that it will open 1,500 HealthHUB stores — remodeled drugstores that focus on health care products and services rather than such wares as greeting cards.

The drugstore chain opened the first three HealthHub stores in Houston in February and now has plans to roll out others this year, in Atlanta; Philadelphia; Tampa, Fla.; and New Jersey, CNBC reports.

“We’re pleased with the customer feedback we’ve received on the HealthHUBs,” said Kevin Hourican, executive vice president of CVS Health and president of CVS Pharmacy, speaking to CNBC.

HealthHUB stores offer blood testing and health screenings, among other services, as well as space for seminars conducted by dietitians and other specialists.

The company says it aims to open about 50 HealthHUB stores this year. Tweaks to the design will be made to those that open thereafter, said Alan Lotvin, the company's executive vice president of transformation, as reported on CNBC. Stores will be tailored to their markets. Those opening in the Northeast, for instance, will be smaller than the Houston stores.

Company executives say the HealthHUB initiative ties into CVS’ $70 billion acquisition of health insurance company Aetna and a desire to keep the latter’s members healthier.
