Amazon to offer same-day delivery of online purchases from Whole Foods stores

February 8, 2018

Amazon.com says it will offer complimentary two-hour delivery of groceries and "select alcohol" from Whole Foods stores to members of its Amazon Prime membership program in certain neighborhoods in Cincinnati; Virginia Beach, Va.; Austin, Texas; and Dallas.

The retailer says it will expand the free service across the U.S. this year. Customers who want their purchases delivered within the hour can pay an extra $7.99 for orders of $35 or over. "This gives them a big leg up over other delivery providers that often experience a disconnect between their services and the source stores," said Andrew Park, senior director of consumer experience strategy at tech company InMoment, speaking to BuzzFeed. "Brick-and-mortar grocery brands have attempted to launch their own delivery programs, but Prime's proven ability to execute consistently could be the tipping point to the adoption of online grocery.”
